Clear Alternative Review With Pics
« on: October 24, 2004, 12:51:04 PM »
I finally got around to posting this review of the Clear Alternatives Integrated Tailight.  To start off, the guys at Clear Alternatives are awesome.  They sent me the first one and for some reason when I put it on the brake light stayed on.  So I emailed them and sent it back and they sent me a new right away.  So I put this one on and the brake light stayed on again.  So embarrassingly enough, I started trying to track down the problem and found out when I pulled off the rear fairing, it pulled the rear brake switch up and it got hung up on the heel guard which made it stay on.  So yeah, I'm an ass.

The light comes with two "in-line" resistors to slow the blinking of the LED turn signals.  But they're really not in-line.  I'm not an electricitan so I thought I should just install them in-line with the turn signal wire.  No such luck.  The Positive right signal resistor goes to the negative left wire and vice versa.  Once I got that figured out it was a piece of cake.  Just take off your rear fairing unbolt the old brake light and install the new one.  Now take off those pesky turn signals.  I had the Lockhart Phillips ones that came with my FE kit so this new taillight is much better and safer than those were.  I made sure to use all the stock connectors to hook everything up and soldered and heat shrinked all the connections.

I do have to say this is a great product.  It looks great because it really cleans up the back end.  I would have to also say that the turn signal LEDs are either as bright or brighter than stock signals.  They are definitely brighter than my LP signals.  I'm glad we have these guys as a sponsor of the site.  The light is the cheapest intergrated light I've found as well.  I've found other on eBay that only give you the innards and make you disassembe your own taillight.  This is a complete kit.

Now it looks a little like mine.. hehehe..  I have the LED blinkers in the rear foot pegs, and I have nothing but complaints from other riders.  Can't see them at all during the day, and not too good at night either.  Maybe run them w/the intergrated tail lights...  :)

Looking good, I think I found my next mod!

Red of course,

Red JR Blaster Jacket or Red/White A-Stars, Red Sidi Vertigo Corsas, Red Nicky Hayden Replica gloves, no red pants though.  I either wear Black JR Blaster Leather pants or JR textile pants that are grey.  My Helmet is a Shoei XSP-II Duhamel Replica.  I have tones of different gear though.  This winter I think I'm getting the TZ-1 suit.

Damit, why does every little thing have to be $100 or more??  Folks love making money off of motorcycle owners.  I like it, but it's pricey (just like every other aftermarket piece I like)

The 2nd pic, which i'm guessing is the pic of a rear shot of the bike, is not showing up.  FIX IT! 8)
