Dominican
« on: July 06, 2015, 10:52:42 AM »
I'm off to the DR for two weeks, so behave. I plan on coming back with skin cancer from all the sun. My first vacation in 9 years and I'm pretty burned out, so hopefully I can recharge a bit while I'm gone. If I don't come back do me a solid and please ship my bike to me.  ;D :thumb: 8)
See ya boys, ride safe.

It was a nightmare. I stayed at a "4 Star All Inclusive Resort" and it was an utter shit hole. No face cloth to wash with, no clock in the room, one beer on tap, only 10 pre made drinks to choose from, the seaweed on the beach made it unusable.... I could go on. For my first vacation in almost a decade I was pretty disappointed. The DR is incredible and I saw some amazing things while there, but the main cost was for the resort, and it was definitely not as advertised.
To make up for things, I'm leaving for Japan in 4 weeks. Where I should have gone last summer instead of mucking about with resorts and all that phoney BS. Hopefully round two goes better.

That sucks man, sorry to hear it was such a disappointment. Hopefully Japan is way better! I'm checking off my 50th state and hitting Hawaii for 15 days at the end of April...It's all unpaid time off, so ouch, but I'm stoked!

Time off is time off. I know there's no money involved, but sometimes you just gotta go.
Japan should be good. It'll be low stress, which is the biggest thing. My biggest worry from day to day will be finding the right meal, it'll be rough. I have a lot planned out but with Japanese transit, it'll take two days. So lots of wandering around and spur of the moment stuff. Should be a lot better. I'm just worried about my hotels, I hope those are as advertised. If so, I'm golden.

I'm sure it will be much better no matter what, compared to the DR trip, lol. Have you ever used CouchSurfing? I have stayed with countless people in the US via CS, and it's a worldwide thing. I'm sure you could find some english speaking hosts, if not even other Canadian or American ex-pats to stay with if you searched hard enough! Just a though,t, as CS is, and has to be, totally free of charge.

I'm totally doing that next time. In Japan I bet that's how porn starts. Actually in Japan just walking down the street is how porn starts. If you've never been there you won't get what I mean.
It should be better than the DR. Usually in Japan they are so meticulous with everything I'm not super worried about my hotels, just hoping that this all comes together. I booked small rooms because I just need a place to basically sleep and wash, so barring that I have no expectations. I did the hostel thing last time, not for me. Guess I'm high maintenance. The good news is I got two weeks of hotels during cherry blossom season for under a grand canadian. Hah! Try doing that. It's fun. I'll make a thread before I leave at the end of the month and I'll post up some cool pictures for nobody to look at. I'm also visiting some bike places while there, so there'll likely be some bike pics. Not sure if I can make it to Honda or not yet, we'll see. Not sure how sober I'm going to be on this trip.
