CBR600RR engine sound
« on: April 05, 2004, 01:38:35 AM »
Hi, I am new to the forum.  I have a question about 03 CBR600RR, because I just bought a used 03 CBR600RR it has 12,000 miles on it, my question is why does the engine sound so loud, is that normal, the reason I ask is that I have a 04 Kawasaki ZX-6R 636cc and it is quieter than the Honda, any information will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

12,000 miles is a lot but I think there are some riders here with that many miles who can answer that.

I'm thinking the valves need to be adjusted.

Question:  How much did you buy your bike for?

And what color is it?  Hope it's the fastest one--yellow! :)

Either way, good choice and welcome aboard, bro. 8) :)

:-[ Welcome to the message board  :-[ Does it have the stock exhaust? That's a lot of miles and a bike gets a bit louder as it ages, but the stock exhaust is pretty quiet. We need more information to help...

Thanks Nemesis, it is red, I paid $5300 is that a good price?  I bought from a local private party, I will ask the dealer to see if it needs a valve adjustment.

Are there any holes in the exhaust (drilled or otherwise)? Is it the exhaust sound, or the engine (motor) sound? Is it loud at idle or only when you ride?

I honestly wouldn't sweat it, as long as it's running good and the scheduled maintenance has been kept up with, she should be fine! If it's idling rough or making strange noises, then I'd be concerned, otherwise "ride and smile."

$5300 with 12,000 miles.  Damn!

I'm selling mine for $4000 obo with 5700 miles.  The only problem is the right fairings were damaged from the wreck which I'm fixing and the subframe is bent which I'm fixing.  Other than that, it's in perfect condition.

So, how do you like it?

I was gonna bike another bike--Kawasaki ZX-6R--but now I have two RR's.  How does the RR feel compared to the Kawi?  How many miles does your Kawi have?

Nemesis, what happened to your bike? How did you drop it? my friend is looking for a track bike where are you located at?

Well, RR is pretty cool, comparing to Kawi, it is less aggressive, Kawi to me feels like it has more power and the engine sounds more smooth, like I mention before it is quieter than RR, my kawi has 1700 miles, I almost bought the yellow 03 RR but dealer was slow to get back to me and I pay less for the kawi plus its 04, kawi green looks cool.

I still have the bike.  Just sitting in the garage.  I have potential buyers in line.  I'm located in Cali.
