Posting avatars

Now you've found a cool pic and want to use it as an avatar.  For those who don't know, avatars are the little pictures that show up with your posts, giving what you write a little more personality.  This is how you post one.

If the picture is online, just right click on the picture.  There will be a little drop-down menu, and you want to select "properties", which is the bottom selection.  Now, the new rule on this site is the avatar can be no bigger than 100x100 pixels.  To find out if your pic meets requirements, just look at the "dimensions" line when the properties of the pic come up.  If it is the right size, highlight and copy THE ENTIRE URL address of the picture.

Then, come back to this site and access your profile.  You do this by  clicking on your username when you're logged in.  Make sure to put in your password for any changes to take effect.  Next you scroll down to the section that says "I have my own pic."  Make sure the little box has a check mark in it and paste in the URL address.  Scroll all the way down and submit your changes.

You know have (or at least should have) your own avatar.  If this doesn't work, you either screwed up and didn't paste the whole URL, or the website you stole it from does not allow people to take their pics.  Good luck.  8)

It has to be online for it to work in the forum.  You can either email the admins here to have them set up a gallery for you, or you can email one of us who has a gallery to post your picture.  You can email it to me and I'll do this for you.  I won't resize it for you though, so make sure the pic is at most 100X100 pixels.

Sorry, this message board only supports pictures hosted from an IP address. There are tons of places on the internet to get free galleries, if you email our administrator Jeff he can set up a gallery for you or I use www.bikepics.com for a picture "dumping ground" but they don't support gif file types.

I dunno.  Maybe the forum software is trying to stretch it to 100x100 pixels.   ???

What size was it to begin with, it either stretched it or shrunk it.

I would try to get an avatar closer to 100x100 because the pixels got stretched out, that's why it's blurry.

You can always copy the picture to your computer. Resize it. And then post it in the gallery.

I do have it on my computer but the problem is ....100 X 55 pixels on this site automatically changes it to fit a square.  I can cut and resize a new one to make a square...that should work out.

If your posting images from your machine you can use www.imageshack.us . They will host any type of file including GIF. It's real easy. Just copy the link they provide for you.
