120hp CBR600RR and more to come!
« on: October 15, 2004, 08:22:05 PM »
While i was sitting around with a broken back going out of my mind i bought a 2004 CBR600RR that was crashed to turn into a track/race bike. I paid $4500 for it and it had 600 miles on it and still has a clean title, i had to buy a new front wheel, upper fairing bracket and a 2nd hand dash (with 4,000 miles on it).

I havent been inside on of the new 600's and i wanted to see what was going on, pick up a few ideas for the Aprilia and just see what i could get out of one power wise. i didnt want to spend too much money on it but wanted to try a few thing.

I ported the heads, got the crank balanced (it was 20 grams out at each end) had the head decked, and had a radius valve job. i kept with the stock cams because the HRC cams are bloody expensive but degreed them up pretty tight. i got the HRC velocity stacks and airfilter which were kinda spendy and a powercommander and M4 full system and that is it.

i will get the suspension and 520 chain conversion on it soon so it is race ready.

the bike made 108 on our dyno as i received it with a Two Brothers slip-on and now with a custom map that was made for the slip-on (before i got the M4 full system) it is making over 120hp, and this is on pump gas. i will finish up the custom map on Monday and should get a few more hp and smooth it out a little and then i will add some MR9 to see what it will really do

600's are cool  :)

so how much HP could you get out of a 600 and it to still be pretty reliable?

depends on how big the budget is, i am pretty sure 125-130 is possible with the HRC ECU and cams, the compression is only 12.5:1 and i could go higher but a lot will come down to how it is abused.

burnouts and bouncing off the limiter will kill a stock bike as well as a massaged bike

So you only bumped the compression up .5? How much of a difference did that make?

just a little more low end, i wanted to build the head to the HRC specs and they said to mill 0.010" off the head.  the new ZX6RR is 13.5:1 compression so i could have gone a lot further  8)

I'd have to ride it to feel the difference. ;D
Machines own the straights.  Riders own the corners.

I am impressed... (and that's not really easy for me)

I'm just hoping I can get my 05 in enough time to have much of this done before the season.

Clarkie, any odds you could provide me exact measurements of the HRC stacks?  I'm pretty sure I could have them made cheaper than I could buy them.

Our season is over in November and I'll be looking at doing the same there Clarkie so keep a list going for me... its cheaper than selling my 03 and racing out an 05.
I'm not a real asshole, but I do play one on the internet...

Terry, hit me up off the forum if you want...

Let me know who you have doing your engine work.  If it's no one in particular, I have a guy who does very good work who I will be taking my new bike to.  It'd probably save us some money to get them done together...  (Matt Drucker of MD Racing)
