Formula USA - Topeka
« on: August 18, 2003, 12:51:21 AM »
i got a chance to go out and see the formula usa sprint races in topeka, ks.  in the middle weight superbike class, jeff wood pulled away on his #9 600RR, winning the race by well over a 1/2 mile in an 8 lap race (1 mile track).  he was one of two RR's in the race, the rest were suzuki gsx-r 600's, and yamaha r6's, but no one could touch the RR's.  made me proud...  ;D

Some big shots of the race RR's...

I was just going down the HPT 1/4 mile tonight.  Nice to hear someone else attended tho.  I was quite surprised at how poorly attended the races were.  Didn't get to go Friday but Saturday and Sunday were a lot of fun to watch.  The new owners are planning on repaving the track in hopes of trying to lure AMA back.  More tracks days are going to be planned in the future.  Gotta get some leathers and some race plastic. ;D

I was gonna go too because Honda Sport gave me a couple of tickets when I went in to pick up some parts, but unfortunately I was too busy to make it up from Lawrence on Sunday.  The guys at the shop were saying the RR's were cleaning up all day long on Saturday though  ;D

Hey 600AH-AH, did you run your bike through the 1/4?  What did ya end up running if you don't mind telling?   ;)  I'm gonna try to make it out there at least once this year just to get an idea of how good I can do...it's still $10 on Thursday nights, right?  Or do you know if it changed?

Thursday night is done for the year.  Unless the owners changed their mind.

Yeah I ran it through the 1/4 mile.  Best I could manage was 12.03 at 121mph.  My 60 foot times were absolute crap.  Not aggressive enough with the clutch on the launch.  It was my first time back there since I had my F4i.  My best time on it was like an 11.7 at 122mph.  It took me a couple of Thursdays to run that.  Oh well, there is always next year.
