be careful with the yoyodyne/euro racing sliders
« on: August 17, 2003, 11:28:38 PM »
Hey guys,
For those of you racing your cbr600rrs, be careful using the yoyodyne distributed euro racing sliders (reviewed elsewhere on this site). I installed a pair this weekend before going racing. During my GTU race (ccs) I managed to drag a slider and nearly ended up my mellon. =\

So, if you use them, maybe trim them a bit.

hey thanks gus, im not dragin my frame sliders but my toe sliders on my sidi's may need replacing after the next track day.  thats amazing that you hit the frame sliders, the way im thinking, you leg would have gotten crushed before the sliders hit. ???

now that i think about it, and i mean no offense to you, but i think thats bs.  its gotta be physically impossible, unless you were on the verge of a low side.  but tell me how your leg didnt get dragged underneath the bike.  sorry bro, but i dont beleive a word of it.  this picture kinda proves my point:

christ.

Primarily, you forget that when you're cornering, your suspension is (or should be) almost fully compressed.

The frame slider is mounted really low on the 600rr, relative to other 600s.

here's a small picture of me:

http://www.motorsportpix.com/glossy.asp?photoid=31014

That was taken after i removed the frame sliders. You can see the bodywork and engine case is *nearly* on the ground. The frame slider will hit the ground before the case cover does.

Add in a downhill off camber turn 9 at NHIS and you're dragging a frame slider.

i dont know, just seems like at that angle you should be draggin elbows you know?  i understand what you mean by suspension compression lowering the slider even more but whatever, i give you mad props if this truely happened.  and be careful!

Gus, I couldn't get the pic to come up that you posted in the link.

In any event, I don't know...  If you're dragging that slider, you should have already hit your footpeg, and I don't know where your leg would fit...

Also, I don't know that you'll find any "shorter" slider to use or that a shorter one would do any good.

So, I guess I wouldn't personally consider removing my sliders.  If I get to where I've got the bike cranked over that far, I'll be sure to post it.

yea, still sounds like bs to me.   sorry gus, but i dont think it physically possible.  post a pic of you actually dragging a frame slider, and i'll beleive you.  cause in that pic, its no where close.  close is within an inch, not 8"

I won't go as far as to say it's B.S. because I've seen Colin Edwards drag a SHOULDER!   Like, to the point where he could have gotten off the bike and it wouldn't have fallen but 1/4" to the ground.  However, I would say this is extremely extreme (like that term?  :D).  Extreme such to the point that I wouldn't consider "worrying" or "being careful" about it.

It's kind of like saying "be real careful when you're dragging your elbow so that the pavement doesn't catch it".

No, we say you're CRAZY Snow  ;D

Gotta get you working on your English here  :D

Dame =  old fashion word for good looking woman
Damn =  explative word which you meant to say

and then the whole crasy/crazy mix-up.  Hang in there dude, we'll school you!

Well, Here's one shot that shows the slider pretty close to the ground. This isn't the corner I dragged it in. But, you can see I'm on the gas, so the front is up higher than it would be in turn 9. So, if you can imagine the front suspension 1-2" lower, the slider would be on the ground.

If ya still don't believe me, oh well. =)

Okay, so I'm convinced.  Just for the record, it's not that I didn't believe you, more over that I don't know what you could really do about it.

Are you just dragging the lower tip?  As in, is it dragging because the mushroom is a bit wider than a standard slider?

I'd think you'd be able to change your entrance point or body position to affect your line and keep the bike up a bit more.

If you're dragging the slider, you don't have much left in the line of rubber...  Maybe 1/2 a degree?
