that is how it is, wgtt. the ideea is that tires are heated mostly by the flex of the tire, and in a much smaller ammount due to friction. you must have flexed an aluminim wire and noticed that it gets -really- hot. when braking/accelerating fast, weight transfers to front/back, and tires flex due to this, thus, they heat up. doing burnouts also won't help very much. tires don't heat up fast enough, and you waste a lot of thread, especially with narrow tires. of course, best way to heat them is with the electric tire warmers. they also have the advantage of keeping the tires warm between races, so with race-only tires, you don't loose a heat cycle every time you stop for fueling/a drink/break. as i think you know, race tires have a given number of heat cycles before they start loosing their grip (the oils that keep them soft seeps out and they harden, behaving like a very old tire)
