Project Bike
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:14:56 PM »
I am still trying to get the hang of this forum format so please, a little forgiveness here.

I bought this 2006 at an online auction with a salvage title. The pictures they had looked ok, it all seemed like it was going to be plastics. I thought, I loved my 2004 so I can turn this into a rebuilt and ride it a bit.

When I went to pick it up..... well.......... I noticed that the subframe is bent  :banghead: than I noticed that the rear wheel is also bent  ???   "Mr Lift Operator where do I get the key?" "it doesn't have a key" :-X what do I do now?
I know! I will turn it into a track bike
So here I am and this is what I have:

I would love to get it on the street, but I don't know if I will be able to get it to pass the inspection in NY.

If I get in too deep I will part it out, unless someone wants it whole.

check out its butt

Since I don't have a key, I have to get one.
1. to turn the bike on
2. to open the gas cap

so here is my first challenge, this freaking screw is so hard to get off. Obviously I need it off to get the Key Code in order to cut a new key.

that is just a regular torx bit. 3/8 swivel spark plug ratchet, and put the bit on the end of a crap extension. get it lined up real well and hit the end of the extension to "drive" it in. hit it real square a few times, and real hard, as the jarring will help loosen it up. then take the extension off, put on the ratchet and give it hell. it'll come outta there.

i hope you picked the bike up for a pretty decent price.

Thanks for that tip. Do you think I need to remove the front end of the bike to be able to get in there properly?

I got it for a few grands.

If you plan on turning it into a track bike, there is a lot of the stuff you won't really have to worry about imo. Plus it doesn't look too bad from the pictures..

Needless to say, race body work will replace pretty much all the damanged plastics. Since your rear subframe is bent, you can go with a lighter, stronger compound. Seems simple enough?  :thumb:

Why are you making such a big deal out of the key and why has no one else suggested this to the poor guy?

Go on eBay and buy a blank key for this bike. They even have them in Red with Honda logo for like $5.99.

Call a mobile key maker to come out to your bike, they will stuff the ignition where the key does with "something" it will dry up and they will remove it and it will be like a key, then they will make a new key out of your blank one. Shouldn't cost you more than $50-60 and you won't have to worry about all the headache and hard work.

cuz he said he was making it a track bike.... so 2 dollar toggle from radioshack and 1.25 in connectors (2) and a 15 dollar twist off gas cap.... seemed cheaper

That's like $20...personally for me, that $40 difference is not worth my time or the headache associated with it.
