GoPro vs Replay XD
« on: October 20, 2011, 02:13:31 AM »
Looking for a video recording system.. GoPro Motorsports Hero vs Replay XD1080

Anyone have feedback on either one of these products?
I know there are a lot of GoPro users out there and that they put out a great product. Haven't heard much about the Replay system considering my friend had only told me about it earlier today.

Are there any other products that may be worth considering?

I like the fact that the GoPro has 150 min of recording time + extended battery options vs. 122 minutes of recording time on the Replay. I know 122 minutes is plenty but in anticipation of long weekends without access to charge it, the extended battery for the GoPro seems like a better choice.

As far as quality and ease of use, they're comparable imo. GoPro again, may seem to have a slight edge between the two systems for durability with the replaceable outer shell at a fairly reasonable price.

I am liking the size of the Replay with the thought in mind of mounting the camera in unique views that the GoPro may have trouble getting..but with the limited protection of the lens especially with gravel and all sorts of other crap that goes flying on the track, the GoPro seems to be the better choice once again.

Any objections to this reasoning? or is going ahead and getting the GoPro a reasonable conclusion?

well, gopro has a lot of users, if something was inherently wrong with it, we'd have heard it by now.

I watched a vid on them testing all 4 of the major brands of mini cams.... it came to gopro and replay. replay won. but yeah not having an exterior cadet that is implacable is a big downfall....but even without having a case the replay had far superior wind cancellation... and night time light adjustment.

The newest revisions of the GoPro have adjustable white balance, IIRC. I bought the Motorsports kit new, about a year and a half ago and have never regretted it. I've seen it come off a crashed bike (70mph) and the case was banged up, but the camera itself was fine. I use it for a lot of stuff other than the bike too, and having a waterproof case for it is invaluable, IMO. Battery life has been great so far, just charge it in between sessions at the track and it goes forever. I don't have any hands on exp with the others, but I can say I've been very happy with the GoPro.

Found this. Looks like a great deal! Slightly concerned about the appearance of the page..and they're the only ones dealing on the GoPro HD Hero2 Motorsports. But if its everything as promised, its a steal. What do you guys think?

hero 2? since when?  anyway, dunno if it's worth the upgrade.... i mean it made the normal hero 70$ cheaper.
and there was a topic here that pretty much said the hero 1 was already too good compared to the previous one. i mean, sure, the additions are a nice plus, still, the normal one is a so good a bargain now.

For the price that I found the Hero2 at, its only $40 more than the Hero1. Its a steal for sure IMO
