Short local road, onboard video!!
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:55:50 PM »
5 minutes this time, go watch!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvIrXCXjutU

It's a local road back home in CA. Bicycle or motorcycle, I rode this road at least once a day, 300 days a year, since I was about 13. I will forever miss carving its corners.   :'(

Great video!   :thumb:
You look like a talented rider.  I need to get more experience so I can ride with more confidence in turns like you do.

Hey, thank you! I don't think I'm anything special when it comes to riding, if anything just very meticulous, ha. Anyway, I have a lot of experience on this road too, so that helps me look all fast, lol! Grew up and lived most of my life only a few miles away from it, and while I had my RR there, probably rode it at least once a day, 300 days of the year, for 4 years. So I have some practice,  ;D

You're bang on about experience, though. To me that's always been the key to my confidence in the bike, just putting in the miles and enjoying the process of learning. Track time helped me immensely, too, giving me a safe , and legal place to push my limits, and those of the bike sometimes too, if I was lucky, lol. Being able to work with instructors was awesome and very insightful to ride with someone more experienced than I. With time and simply more smart riding I'm sure you could boost both your riding skills and bike confidence, no problem! :thumb:

I'd get a GoPro, but I don't want anyone listening to me butcher my shifting.  ???

Hack, is the term we use at work, to describe a rider such as me.

Lol, I'm sure you're not THAT bad...right? Just mix it so the music is louder than the bike.

Funny you say that. I listen to music while I ride for exactly that reason. F*** missed that shift, F*** missed, F***!
Now all I hear is boom boom boom lets go back to my room. Haven't quite figured out the part where I feel the bike lurching after I miss application of the throttle. Maybe I just need a good RRK.

Stopped at a red light, lots of cars behind you and next to you.  The light turns green, you go, then shift to second and vrooooom, you're in neutral.  :-X  LOL  been there     :banghead:

Just my 2 cents...

Practice, practice, practice. Smooth comes before fast. Listen to the bike and take it slow. Think of it as starting over with the learning how to shift. There's no shame in trying to become a better rider. One thing at a time: consider if you are shifting up or down, gently close the throttle, pull in the clutch all the way, firmly push down or lift on the shifter, waiting to feel the positive click into the desired gear, slowly release the clutch while gently starting to open the throttle. Make it an issue of muscle memory and you will be smooth. Do it smoothly and consistently and you will find it much easier to do it quickly when necessary. :thumb:

Actually my biggest issue right now is I'm holding a lot of tension in my throttle hand, it's throwing my timing off. If I focus on the road, three minutes later I'm relieving a death grip. Not sure what my issue is and why I can't seem to relax it. Earphones are easier.  ???

When you're upshifting... learn to do it clutchless.  It's much smoother & faster, when done right.
