hot wire fuel pump
« on: August 19, 2010, 06:47:41 PM »
anyone know how to hot wire your fuel pump to verify that it is dead?

checked and bypassed the bas sensor already, fuses/relays checked good. guy doesn't want to spend the $400 on a new fuel pump without knowing for sure that it's the problem, and the only other thing i can think is to try and hot wire it to see if it will kick on....

Ugh... I just went through this on my 748....

But on the 600RR, a couple ways to do it.
1.  Tun kill switch to off - Remove the fuel pump relay - jump the Brown & Black/white wire terminals together (I think... at least that's what it in on the 07).  Key to "ON" kill switch to "run" and you should hear it start up.

2.  On the bottom of the tank, on the fuel pump assembly plate - there should be a brown 2-wire connector.  Remove it and with a 12V DC source supply power to the connector on the bottom of the pump assembly.  Pump to start up.

3. Pull the pump assembly from the tank, there should be a small 2 wire connector on the pump itself.  Remove it and and with a 12V DC source supply power directly to the pump.  if it doesn't start up - then the pumps bad.

IF it is bad - It might be worth it to pull the separate the pump itself from all of the shrouds and take it down to the local parts store and talk them letting you dig through the fuel pumps... or even a catalog.  might get lucky and find a pump for a lot cheaper.   I did on my 748,  There is a airtex/Delco/Standard cross over number that is the exact pump for ~$120 vs the $400 of a used Ducati pump assembly or $ 750+ for a new assembly...

If you need a pump... might talk to Kris S @ Lithium Motorsports.  I know for a fact he had a spare 05 tank & pump assembly that worked - because I gave it to him with a bunch of other spares 2 years ago...

ok, any ideas...

fuel pump is good(hot wired it after we pulled it), bas bypassed and it is good, all fuses and relays are good. i have power everywhere but to the plug of the fuel pump. where else can the problem be?

Yep, Start with the FP connector and trace it back checking voltage until you find the culprit.

well, where does it run? i don't have power to the plug. does it come out of the fuse/relay block straight to the f/p connector?
