CBR track set up
« on: January 22, 2004, 12:28:53 AM »
Hi guys new lister....been riding Duc's for years....had a few sbk's, I like the track the most, but also have to drive on the street. I am down to a monster, and recently moved to SoCal and am mostly in the canyons right out my door, and the monster is not cutting it....found the love in the four cylinders hoping on my friends R6.
After some research, I have decided to get a CBR600.
I will be hitting Willow as much as I can. Anything I should know about regarding set up for the track. I have been unable to ride one yet.
It appears there is a sportbike rental place here where I can rent one.
So that should help clear things up for me, but I always think it is good to ask the people who ride them.
Thanks. The site seems cool by the way.

How much set-up info do you want ?

To be honest my set-up might not work well for you. If I were you, I'd ride it and see how it feels to you. If it isn't doing something you want it to do, then ask how to fix that.

And what components will be on your bike ?

I use a K-tech front end, so unless you're using one as well, my setup will be useless.

So it all depends on the rider and the components... again I'd say just ride it and then decide if its doing what you want it to do.
I'm not a real asshole, but I do play one on the internet...

Thanks, just looking for general info on what most of you guys are doing with geometry and suspension mods if any for the track.
Just trying to get a feel for the bike from people with experience.

I've got a K-Tech front end and Ohlins triple adjustable in the rear, dropped 12 mm from stock in the front and raised ~15 mm in the rear. K-Tech internals are similar to an Ohlins front end, except only the internals are replaced rather than the whole fork.

The K-Tech internals make the forks different length than stock, so my numbers will not match yours for stock forks.
0.85 springs in the front and I forget what the rear spring rate is, but its for 170 pound rider.

The bike is good out of the box though, as I said before... just ride it and see how it feels. If its does something you dont want it to do, then fix that.
