bike dont start
« on: March 06, 2010, 05:17:02 PM »
ok well last season i high sided my bike and was done for the year. so i take it all apart fix it get new fairing and now putting it back together. before i took it to the shop to make sure everything was straight i made sure i cranked and it did. he said everything was good to go so i bring it back to my house. i wake up this morn and started to work on it and tried to crank it. it wouldnt but i heard the starter clicking like it was trying to so i figured the battery was dead. i charge the battery and put it back in tried it again and nothing. the starter wasnt even clicking this time the battery was good so i check the starter fuse it was good. the fuel pump comes on all lights work just dont know why its not cranking.   Is there a starter relay or something??? by the way its a 06 cbr600rr
thanx

even though you charged the battery doesnt mean its not bad.  cranking amps is what counts.  i just went through the same thing thisd morning with my bike. battery was shot. it was charged according to the charger but it didnt have enough cranking amps to turn i tover.

easiest way to find out what the prob is. pull the batt connections. make sure they are clean. even if they are wire brush them a bit and the screws. but cables back on battery. make sure you get the screws decently tight. turn on key listen for fuel pump, try to start. if not, GENTLY tap your relays and try again.

if a no go, hook the charger up to it while it's still in the bike, put it on high, and see if you can bump it over. if so, dead battery. replace battery. (if it doesn't turn over, just as soon as you hit the starter, grab both your positive and neg cables to see if either of them are warm. could have a damaged cable after the wreck. a oddly heated cable is a sure sign to something wrong)

if it worked after cleaning and making sure your screws were tight, you had a bad connection. (fuel pump will kick on even with a bad connection, it will just draw too much current when you try to crank it for a bad connection)

if you replace the battery and it still won't crank, there's more problems, and let us know and we'll help you track it down. start with the basics first.

mine did the same when my starter blew.
it cranked over the night before, then it just clicked the next morning, and eventually it didn't even click anymore; however, i was able to bump-start it (i tell you, bump starting a katana on your own builds the thigh muscles!).

Ok I got one of my buddies batteries and it started first try. Went and bought my own and it works fine now. Thanx for all the help.
