Dakota's New Race Bike!!!
« on: February 24, 2010, 05:54:30 PM »
Got in my new race bike yesterday, a 1996 Honda RS125. It's going to be a new class, a lot of learning, and a heck of a lot of wrench turning, but I'm looking forward to a great season on this little guy. My 600RR race bike has been sold and is just waiting for a ride to the great frozen north at the end of the week. Not to worry though fellas, I've still got the 600RR street bike sitting the garage too.

I can't believe how tiny it is! It weighs about 160lbs. Myself and a friend can pick the whole bike up and hold it a few feet off the ground with basically no effort. Luckily, I'm light enough to ride it and I'm only 5'9" so I can fit in the bubble. This thing makes riding the 600 seem like sitting on a La-Z-Boy.

First, the new RS125 needs some paint and stickers to make it go faster. I'll continue posting pics in this thread as I get it presentable.

Some gearing and "required spares" - footpegs, levers, etc. I've got some cash left over from the sale of the 600 to get a engine rebuild kit and a spare top end.

Went through the bike and took care of some "issues." Got some new seals and o-rings all around the motor and learned how to check the squish band (piston-cylinder head clearance). I've got a nice spares package that just came in from Rising Sun Cycles, including a top end rebuilt kit, new clutch pack, fork seals for when I can afford to rebuilt them, and ton of other goodies. Also picked up a book called Two-Stroke Tuning that is about as thick as a college textbook haha.

I got it painted up and ready to go, CCS/USGPRU weekend at Jennings April 3-4. Can't wait!!

The front profile is a 90, the rear is a 120. They are still 17" rims though. And only $270 per set!!
