Stock 600rr wheelie??
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:17:37 PM »
I have an 06 cbr 600rr and I'm trying to get the hang of wheelies and balance point
before i put a sprocket kit on (-1,+2) but whats the best way to get the wheelies up on a stock
600rr because a few of my buddies wheelie and they say you can lupe it by clutching it in first
so i should get a Supersprox 520 conversion kit on my bike as i stated above (-1+2)
and clutch it up in 2nd...but i wanna get the hang of wheelies and at least be able to ride em out
till rev point before i spend money on sprocket kit... any advise helps (and yes im always practicing in
a spot away from public)

I was able to pull wheelies on my little ninja 250r by practicing weight balancing and clutch use. Not long ones mind you.. wheelies on a 250 compared to a 600 is like racing a geo metro against a corvette  :P but it is possible, so I would guess a lot of wheelie riding is involving where you put your weight. Some guys I ride with run like 15psi in their rear tire, and gear changes, but that isn't a great idea IMHO.
Life is short. Being roadkill makes it shorter!

Yeah riding 15 psi is horrible thats for like stunting im just trying to pull wheelies not 12 o clocks n stuff. but yeah i guess the only real way for me to find my balance point and which gear to pop it up in is to just man up and do it

a long time ago (1992) I rolled a brand new Nighthawk 750 off the showroom floor and a friend of mine made a snide remark about never getting the front up due to lack of power and forward engine position,,,,, with less than 40 miles on it I did a half mile wheelie,

the best thing you can do is gear up and find that long empty parking lot or suitable area and go practice........ the clutch is a funny thing,,, start with low RPMs and see how it reacts. my rr is a 2006 and the only mods I have are a fender eliminator and slip on, gearing is stock. I do 1st and 2cnd gear wheelies without a problem and I am a fatty (5' 8"   235 LBS)  clutching it up allows for low rpm starts and more speed control, when you roll it on you are forced to go fast, FAST.....
both can lead to trouble if you bite off too much too fast. take your time.... also droping the air in the rear tire is a good Idea nothing extreem but it does make the wheelie more stable 22lbs is a good pressure because you can make the adjustment, practice a bit, and still ride with the boys without having to stop and refill it.

I dont suggest going alone just in case you do make a mistake, but having a bunch of people arround you when working the bugs out is not a good Idea either, you dont want too much influence by the crowd...

Good Luck and be safe...

To each their own..if doing wheelies is what they want to do then more power to them. The only thing is where they plan on doing it...if on a public road or highway...I agree with you, squid.
Dainese suits might save lives...but it won't save you from getting pulled over!
