So learn in 1st or 2nd?
« on: February 24, 2010, 01:55:39 PM »
I started my power ups in 1st. Learned very little on my heavy gsxr750. I keep reading post about how i should learn in 2nd around 40 mph  ??? Also stand up or sit down? If standing left foot on front or rear peg?

first things first if your going to do wheelies do them where you are only endangering yourself. Not city streets so people can see you I got hell for that one already from the guys but it does make sense beings your asking how means you dont know. 1st gear power wheelies involve throttle only just get it to like 6 or 7 grand and punch it just keep your foot over the rear brake. 2nd gear you can almost do the same thing but get the revs up a little higher like 9 grand let off so the suspension drops and punch it again. If your thinking of clutch wheelies use 2nd gear cruse at about 30 or 40 and just practice slowly by slipping the clutch and throttling in to it, dont pull the clutch all the way in and let it fly with to high of revs or your ass will be on the road. I have an 08 and have no problem riding 2nd gear out on the rear wheel but like I said do it where there is no one else. hope this helps a little.

Safety is key so also wear your gear while learning. I started learning in first gear and sitting down until i was very comfortable with that then started stand ups (I feel more in control when im sitting down). Keep the rev at around 7k and once you feel its the right time to get it up, cover your rear brake and  give it almost open throttle and barely pull up on the handle bars. your bike wil come up so stay relaxed. I would start doing these sitting down until your fairly comfortable and ready for stand ups. Stand ups i would still start off in 1st. You dont really have to pull up when you give it gas this time. As far as left foot on the front or back peg i felt more comfortable on the front peg. Hope this helps??

Im starting In first, Sometimes throttle but mostly clutch to get used to clutching when i get to 2nd and 3rd gears.I get to about 7k in hard throttle and slip the clutch in. sometimes I bounce the front end just to get the shocks help. Been gettin em up to around 8 inches high sitting down.gonna start standing up soon. :)
