Streets of Willow Springs
« on: February 22, 2010, 12:53:19 PM »
Busy weekend of racing.  Some seriously fast guys out there on 600's.  I was a bit late getting there on friday because I flew in thrusday night.  So on Friday only got 2 or three sessions of riding.  First session trying to farmiliarize myself with the track.  I had done a couple days there about two years ago. Second session matched my best lap time there in less than ideal conditions with wind and cool temps.  Almost tucked the front end twice.  Readjusted some front end suspension and then tucked the front in the third session.  Bad way to end the day.

Saturday got in some pretty good laptimes in cool temps again.  There were a lot of crashes that day so I think everyone was riding a little conservative.  Except for Jeremy Toye who broke the lap record.....He is an insanely fast rider.  Unfortunately Jeff Tigert had a big get off so he wasn't able to race on Sunday.

Sunday went pretty well.  I was mostly finishing in the top 7-8 positions.  The top 5-6 consisted of Jeremy Toye, Karl Lowry, Lenny Hale, Shawn Higbee, Austin Dehaven, so realistically I did pretty well.  I find it hard to keep them in my sights for more than three laps.  Front end grip was really lacking especially on the new pavement.  Lowry tucked the front a turn ahead of me and then I came through and had a pretty big front end slide.  The one race I did well in was the Formula 2 race.  I finished second about 1.5 seconds behind the leader.  I did four races on a 211 AMA spec rear and did all of Saturday and the races on Sunday on a 211 UK front.  By the last race I was about 3/120's off my best pace so not too bad.  The rear was getting pretty squirmy but the front was solid.

Sucks that you had a little accident but sounds like you didn't do too bad!  :thumb:

The first race that I'll be doing this season will be in April.

Damn!  if you're finishing just behind that group... nothing wrong with that at all!

Funny how the UK done-slops are that much better than the US made AMA spec tires.  :P

Yeah the new 211 rear is pretty good.  But yeah the 211 UK ntec rear is pretty unreal.  well at the Big Willow you don't get much life out of a medium compound so it's hard to justify spending the extra money on them but I have a couple times.  Pirelli fronts still rock though

Oh yeah one thing to mentoin about the weekend.  I broke off the little tab where the GPR damper mounts so I had to mount up the OEM damper for Saturday and Sunday.  I must say it worked pretty well at SOW which is a bumpy track.  Had some headshake a few time coming down the hill out of turn two where the front is pretty light.  But.. the OEM damper did it's good.  I wouldn't choose it over the GPR or some other aftermarket one's but I wouldn;t hesitate too much to use it again if I needed to
