ok guys, bikes almost finished
« on: January 13, 2004, 12:36:52 PM »
well something like 2000 dollars later my bike is almost rideable again.  i ordered up mostly all the parts i need except for clipons and tires.  im probably gonna go with the woodcraft clipons unless someone can recommend anything different and give a valid reason 8)    also as for tires, im thinkin either the pirelli diablo corsa's or the supercorsas.  100% of my riding time will be on the track which is why im leaning towards the supercorsas, but the price difference if making me go back to the diablos.   ANY insight is greatly appreciated.

as for bodywork, i ordered a set from www.mdracingstp.com as per jeff and stumpies praise. only question i have is when it is going to ship, and he couldnt answer that and said he had to figure out where they were and he'd email me.  well, are we talking 5 weeks, or 5 days?  you know.  im not complaining but at least a general idea of when something i spent 550 bucks on is gonna get to me.  we'll see.  anyone have any info on how long it took to get it out to you?  im not talking transit time, but i guess he's got to make a set???

now comes the long nights in the sub zero shed rebuilding this bike  :'(

Bodywork...  Depends on how backlogged they are.  Anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks.

It takes a couple days to make a set.  Email Matt after a week and find out...

Mine took  about 2 weeks, I THINK they drop shipped it to me straight form them. Although I got my fender another 3 weeks later since it was one of the first ones:)
Good luck!

thanks guys.  what about painting, i mean, i can paint. im used to be in art school blah blah, but im not 100 percent sure about the finish of this bodywork, are there millions of little pinholes everywhere, or is it all smooth.  what type of paint would be best, and what kind of clear coat over the paint?

no other recomendations on clipons or more importantly tires?? whats up with the new dunlops?  or maybe i shouldnt even bother??  should i just buy a set of diablos?

and should i or shouldnt i put the PAIR valve back in?  i took it out just for shits cause i was bored.  is that going to disqualify me from superstock classes?

what else is not needed on this bike?  i mean, its never going to see the street again, so now im just gonna try and save some weight everywhere i can.  im wondering about removing the radiator fan, since i dont think its needed anymore, but you tell me.  you two already have your bikes set up.  let me know what i should do.  ANY help is appreciated, im new at this. 8)

Don't get carried away on the paint... you're going to throw it down the track anyway - not trying to be an asshole here... its gonna happen if you're racing.

I use CFM (Woodcraft) clip-ons and I would recommend either Michelin or Dunlp tires. Just be sure you're using tire warmers if you go with the Michelins.

And lastly, my bike tends to run hot anyway in the 215-225 range, even when its cold outside, so I'd leave the fan on.

Just learn to ride and go to a school. If you're worried about weight, go take a dump before you race. Until you're really good, the weight won't make any difference at all.
I'm not a real asshole, but I do play one on the internet...

Paint:  Use a single stage automotive paint.  If you don't have a compressor and gun, pay someone to do it (or buy the stuff yourself because you will use it).

Rattle can works, but if you spill gas on it, there goes your paint.  Plus, rattle can tends to flake off.

Clipons & rearsets are Woodcraft - CFM all the way.  Don't even consider anything else, it's just not worth your time.

Tires - whatever floats your boat.  Just use a RACE tire, not a street tire...

Warmers - PD warmers from www.tirewarmers.com (tell Jim I sent you over)

SUSPENSION SUSPENSION SUSPENSION....  This is NOT an option.  It's expensive, but you WILL crash without good suspension...

Weight?  Don't sweat it...  Leave the fan on.  I did...  Get rid of that boat anchor exhaust.  That's some weight savings.  Oh, 520 gearing as well (http://www.moto-heaven.com ask Phil for some Thrust gearing) significant weight savings there right off the drive line...

SS/Kevlar brake lines are a must as well...
