Making plans for a big ride. 8 hours or so. I'm working on the route right now. So keep an eye on this thread. Wanted to give everyone a heads up so they can look ahead and see if it would be possible. Wanted early planning so everyone can have their bike in good enough shape, new tires, etc... It's looking like it will be probably 300-400 mi one day round trip ride. There WILL be group riding rules though, for everyone's safety.
Agenda coming soon
Ok... I just planed the best route possible to ride in the state of Oklahoma, for a grand total of a round trip of 564 mi.
This is what it's looking like.
Meet in Norman 7:30 am for meet, get to know everyone, maybe grab a bit to eat. On the road at 7:59. I haven't planned all the stops yet, but I'm thinking on average we'd need to stop every 100 mi for fuel to be safe and take everyone into consideration due to gearing(s) etc...
Leave Norman and head east on Highway 9 to Seminole.
Southeast on Highway 3 to Wewoka and stop for fuel/smoke/bathroom. Continue to Horrton.
South on 270 to Calvin. Then East on 1 to McAelster. Stop for fuel. Continue east on 1 and merge onto Highway 2 south.
Stop at Clayton for fuel. Continue South to Antlers, and stop for fuel.
East on Hignway 3/7 to Broken Bow. Stop for fuel.
North on 259 through the National Forest (supposed to be a really good ride through here) and reach Smithville. Stop for fuel
East @ Smithville to cove, then North to Mena, AK. Stop for fuel and lunch.
West on 259 back into Oklahoma on the Talimena National Scenic Byway through the Ozark Mountains.
Stop in Talimena for fuel. North to Red Oak, Lequire, and then Stop in Stigler for fuel.
West to lake Eufaula. Continue West down Highway 9 back to Norman, or we could break off and ppl can head to i40 from there.
All in all... 564 miles. Roughly 7 stops/breaks (15 min each and an hour for lunch or so). I know we'll want to stop on the Talimena Byway for pictures and stuff. This is supposed to be the best place to ride in the state of Oklahoma.
9.5 hour driving time @ an average of 60 mph. Supposed to be a lot of twistes on both of the scenic routes. Add another 2 1/2 hour for stops and lunch. If we head out on time, get back around 8-9, catch a beer together, and say our good-byes.
You in??
