Race Windscreen?
« on: January 09, 2004, 11:30:41 PM »
Does anybody recommend a windscreen?  I dunno who makes one that doesnt have the cutout for the little light above the headlight.  If anyone has a hookup on one let me know.
Thanks,

Zero Gravity makes a "race Screen". I found that the Race screens dont hold up as good as the factory one's do, I filled my gap in with fiberglass, it was very easy, Tape a piece of bendable plastic on the outside and butt up agaist windscreen, then layer pieces of fiberglass on the inside with resin, Take off the plastic on the front and...Bahhmm. I had to fill in a couple of small pits with spot putty, Worked great! I bought 2 screens off e-bay for 15.00 bucks~!

damn... sounds like a winner.... gonna look into doing that.  Did you have to scuff the exterior or interior?  I havent ever had to work with Fiberglass before but have done other types of body work.

I already had the bodywork painter to I was careful on the outside but the fibergladd id laid on the inside so its kinda ruff anyway, cut the fiberlass in strips about 2x6..
Its worth trying and kinda hard to screw up if ya do just try again,  Ya got all winter!:)

I doubt you'll see a screen on ebay for $15 any time soon.  You want a good quality racing screen for a good price get a Puig....they look and fit great.  I ordered mine from Lake Country PowerSports

You can still get them at half of the cost, I haven't found a screen yet as thick as the stock one. Beleive me I have crash tested them:)

Stumpy, the Puig ones are damned near as strong as stock... Very impressive.  But you're still correct, the OEM ones used off ebay are the most cost effective and strongest...

For what it's worth, Zero Gravity screens explode on the slightest impact.
Jesus would have seen my blinker and let me in you dick!

Yep. Lowsided at BHF and shattered my ZG. Crashed at 130 into a wall at RA with the stock one.. Scratched a little:) As you know 30.00 bucks is 30.00 bucks on a racers budget.

Well the real racing windscreens have no holes in them so you have to drill the holes in because diffrent people have diffrent track fairings. For a RR you might want to try the DB because it might just be high enough to stick your helmet under the screen for the least abount of drag

At the risk of sounding stupid, what's the benefit of getting a race windscreen?

Well Its mosty air drag (arodynamics) the Doubble Bubble you can fit your helmet under the screen. But on a stock screen your really cant pull you head that low. If your racing Moto GP the race screens are a little thiner to make it weight a little less. Thats pretty much it.
