First Trackday Pics.
« on: January 27, 2007, 08:45:53 PM »
Yesterday I went to Houston to get some tires put on and get fitted for leathers and pick up my rear sets. After deducting a chunk out of my bank account, (yeah, not my credit card, I will not go into debt with this track day thing) I walked out with tires, rear sets and a leather suit. I did not plan on buying a suit, but said to hell with it. I got a Komodo Pro, don't know much about them, went based on the shops recommendation. The suit does seem to have more protection than other suits I saw at the track today, and oh yeah, it is tested, read on.

Today 1/27/06

Well left home at about 7:15, it was raining, got to the track at 7:30 and it did not stop raining until 11:30 am or so, we got on the wet track around 12. First two sessions were wet but went fine, taking it easy and scrubbing the new tires. 3rd session the track is almost dry except for just a few puddles.  Coming out of turn 4 hot I went straight into turn 5 to wide and hit a little wet spot right in the crack where the track had been repaired. I saw it and was committed to my line, I felt the front slide out, heard the Arata rear set scratching and then remember tumbling and thinking to keep my head up so I don’t have to buy a new helmet. I came out with a very muddy bike, tested gear, and a minor sprain to my right ankle. Everything else was just fine, and my helmet did not have a mark on it, I guess I was going about 50-60. Got my bike trailered back and washed it off and got back out there and worked on getting my confidence back. The last session of the day was great, I picked up some speed and had a really good time. In all about 5 people went down out of about 25, the only injury I know of is my own.

A friend of mine took these, quality is poor.

These were taken by another rider. This turn 17, and boy is it slick. First time I have ever felt the front and rear sliding around a turn. After taking it a few times I gave up and just started to take it slow there, the guy taking the pic is standing behind a concrete wall, so if you go down that’s what you hit, cause the tires wall does not go far enough.  Check the last link, it is a vid and you will see the same turn and the wall, some guys have their arms on it.

Oh yeah about the Arata's, they suck.  The left one folded up like, like........., well what ever I tried to straighten it out but it cracked the bracket, I took the stockers with me so I put it back on. They did help keep my bike off the ground though, The only damage was minor scratches to the Tribal Decal, blinker torn off, and a scratched side cover, very small scratch to the Pazzo lever and barend. I had ordered some Woodcraft covers but they did not come in, I guess thats good, cause now I would have a scratched Woodcraft cover.  Anybody want to buy a set of rear sets, Ummm, right side only!

In the end I had a great time and will be going back. I was hesitant about buying those leathers, but if I had rented them, I would have had to buy them anyway since I went down in them. All my gear held up really well and did not feel anything except the minor sprain, which I made worse because I continued to ride on it. So what do you guys know of Komodo leathers, was it a good buy?

Just some random ones I took

My truck, trailer and bike

Here is the damage, what look like scratches on the tank and frame is just mud that was not washed off real good.

Thank goodness for that mud! If that were dry and the bike tumbled it would have been all bad. Sorry about the crash but I'm glad to hear you still got to finish the day. :thumb:

dannngg dude...

those are some cool pics from the side. I wish Jennings had a spot like like that where friends could take pics close to the turns, instead of having to buy them from the photgraphers there

:thumb:  You're OK (well as OK as you ever were, but with the ankle injury), and the bikes not bad off at all.   Mucho respect for getting back on the bike, I can't tell you how many people I've seen go down on their first track day and won't go back out afterwards.  And you had fun! that's what matters.

So I'm guessing you had about 30lbs of mud...and doesn't it suck having to ride back on the crash truck.
To bad about the Arata's, they're some really nice looking rearsets.

I've never heard anything "Bad" about the Komodo's.  When I was out at Loudon a few years back for a LRRS race I did notice that there were a lot of racers wearing them and that's usually a good sign.

Good job maskale!!!

I don't really understand why you got the rearsets in the first place, but it payed off I guess because you had an extra set to throw on and get back on the track!

Keep that puppy elevated, wrap it with an ACE wrap and ice it for a day and it should heal up pretty quickly...you picked a Hell of a way to pop your track cherry!

Yeah Jason once I got to the track I saw that alot of people were wearing them. The armour on them seems to be more than others that I saw also.  The armour that I saw mine had that many others did not was the thigh protection, a little more shoulder and arm protection. I will post pics of it when I get it all cleaned up.

Fret yeah I did not need  the rearsets but I figured that if I went down on the stockers my track day would be over because of how weak they are. Also I wanted the slider protection of aftermarket rearset so that if my bike did go down the plastic would not take as much damage. If I would have had frame sliders there would not have been any damage, I did order some but they did not come in yet. So I did lose some money on the rearsets but I was able to finish the day and they helped save my plastics, all i have to do is put a new decal and blinker and my bike will look like it never went down.

Just purchase a few NOS stickers---the bike will look brand new----Orange NOS stickers look good on the
Black----

When you went down at 50 and 60 mph did you slide?----And did your helmet hit the ground?  ----

What damage to the suit?----I think your purchase of the suit was the best money you ever spent----how much was the suit?

It all looks like fun----accept for the mud-----

Make sure you oil the chain----

Added a profesional pic of me in the first post, he only got one of me. I think I was washing my bike most of the time he was there. And at 5.75 a piece they can add up, no I know why people always have pics with the logo or words across the pic.

Crazy pic of the day.  This is coming out of turn 17, the slick one I spoke about you can also see the wall, luckly this rider did not hit the wall.  The bike is still in motion here, the tail is off the ground.
