I don't know what is the longest wheelie I have done in terms of distance.
I did pull a nice "power wheelie" accelerating from 100MPH to "an undiscolsed rate of speed" on my '05 GSXR 750. Basically, I shifted down three gears and gave her full throttle. I moved my weight all the way forward to try to keep the front end down, but the Gixxer went HUGE on power and nothing was going to keep the front wheel on the ground. Jessica the GSXR 750 was stolen and totalled on 12/31/05. Now I have an RR.
I have found the CBR600RR does not wheelie so easily. I have run through the first three gears on the back wheel, but I don't think it was more than a 1/2 mile of distance max.
From 1997 to 2000, I rode a Yamaha XT600 with sick engine mods - full White Bros power up kit, 11:1 compression, 5 angle valve job, custom porting, custom jetting, etc. That bike could wheelie like nothing else I have ridden. Any speed, any rpms, any time, just open the throttle and the front wheel was up in a snap. It probably spent twice as much time on the back wheel than the front. Many of those wheelies were with my wife on the back. For that reason, we won't say much more about that period. Hey, it was the 90s lots of people were making bad decisions . . . let it go, man!
I have seen a lot of riders using the rear pegs or kneeling on the seat to wheelie. While I respect the skills involved, it looks well . . . lame. I am much more impressed by riders that shifting through the gears on the rear wheel. IMO, That looks friggin' awesome.
In the 1970s there was a TV show called "That's Incredible". On that show a dude rode a wheelie out of his garage and all over LA basically until he ran out of gas. I mean all over, side walks, pedestrian bridges, stairs, you name it. The guy was the world record holder for wheelie distance. It was a Kawasaki dirt bike that he rode, I remember the green. After I saw that I realized that there was no way to be best at wheelies.
I still like blasting a few gears on the back tire when I am in the mood. Nothing to prove, just a damn good time!
