Oxtar Evo Ti Boots Review (pics)
« on: June 24, 2005, 01:07:52 PM »
Oxtar Evo Ti Boots
Size 46 (European)
Color: Black

I bought these about a year ago from New Enough for 239.99
I considered different boots as well, here are my opinions on them.
Dainese Axial: Couldn’t find a place to try them on and tons of cash.
Alpinestars GP Tech: A bit over the top styling for my taste. I thought it looked like a space cowboy boot.
Sidi Vertebrae Corsa: Nothing special on the looks and same protection as the Oxtar, but much more money.
Daytona: Impossible to locate and too much money ($800).

Looks:
Pretty good. Not too much or too little. I think the only boots that look better than these are the Sidi Vertigos. Man those things are sweet. I would have probably bought the Vertigo Corsas even though they are more money, but they were not out at the time I bought mine.

Quality:
Very Good, not excellent. There are some misalignments with the stickers and it the toe shifter is only a patch, not a whole side, like on most boots. Otherwise no complaints.

Protection:
The boots have a lot of protection for the price. The have a similar torsion prevention system for the ankle like Sidi, but I thought that they covered more against impact than the Sidi Vertebrae. They also have the protection for the torsion of the front foot, which many companies do not have.

Fit:
The boots fit great, but the calf adjusting system is kind of weird, because I have skinny legs and you have to make it really tight for the Velcro to catch right. OLtherwise no problem. This would have been the main reason for buying the Vertigo Corsas, because they have the supposed calf adjusting system.

Performance:
I have no problems shifting gears in these anymore, but they were a bit stiff when I got them. Also, walking in them is not a problem anymore.  I bought the Sidi Socks with these and there is a big difference between wearing regular crew socks or Sidi or any other kind of thin (ski type) socks. These flow plenty of air to keep comfortable and I never had sweaty feet in these. I also rode in cold weather and the boots kept me nice and warm.

Are those silver parts metal or plastic?

Big feature the boots are missing that I prefer are heel sliders...

The toe sliders are titanium. The piece on the ankle is plastic.
I think that at the time that I bought my boots there were no heel sliders. I am not sure, but I think that even alpinestars didnt have them.
You would know better Fret.

Bump for laub.  :spank:

I will post the pics of the boots after the crash. The ankle protector on the right side got a good scuff and the toe sliders/ protectors got a trashing too.

Both of the items are replaceable so it is not a big deal.

Couple of things since my last review:
- The boots are great. They protected me very well in the crash and slid well on the pavement.
- Titanium when sucffed changes colors and melts the plastic holder that holds it in place. 8)
- The calf adjusting problem is no big deal anymore, because it fits fine when you have pants stuffed in the boots.
- I tried the Sidi Vertigo Corsas and like the Oxtars better. The looks of the Sidi's are great, but the protection of the Oxtar's is better in my opinion. The calf adjusting and front foot adjusting things on Sidi's did not make that much difference on my feet.
- The Oxtar's have a cup protecting your toes as well.

And for Fret, there is a new Oxtar model  and has a new titanium heel slider and the full front gear shifter patch.
Here is a pic of the new model, which I have not seen for sale in the US yet.

when your feet don't get sweaty ..exactly how hot is it where you ride? I'm trying to spock out the vents in your pictures but don't see any...I have the sidi corse air...which may be useless come winter time...

Two things laub. When I was riding in NY my feet did not really get sweaty. In NV they do, but I never feel it. For the winter they are pretty good. I have ridden in them in NV march temperatures, about 50 degrees, and they were great.
The vents  are on the ankle, where you see those small holes, and on the shin, where the small mesh silver inserts are.
Hope this helps.
