I wouldn't worry too much about top speed...not even on a track! It's too freaking dangerous and unpredictable out there, but if you don't mind death and have nothing to loose, go for it, just don't take out an innocent family in your death wish.

That statement wasn't necessarily meant for you alaskarider, but for myself and anyone else that goes to insane speeds on the surface streets.

My new rule is, "no triple digits on the streets."

I think it was simply LUCK and alot of it. But, if it was an Angel, then you got Evil Knieval's old Angel.
What's really unbelievable is how I overlooked this thread!
I'll tell you why you stayed upright. 1) Your angle of contact was very low, i.e. glancing. 2) The bike's gyroscopic effect keeps it upright and moving in a straight line. 3) It happened so fast, you had insufficient time to over react and really screw things up worse.
I'm really glad you're ok Fret You were really lucky AND you have a great guardian Angel. He should get an MVA award.

WHen I was in Riverside Ca on my 84 gpz550 I was going like around 80on the 90 freeway and saw red cones ahead. Well I thought I had more time so I spaced a little longer till i realized i was running over the cones and straight ahead was a wood 4X4 with huge sandbags at its base. On the top of the 4x4 was a big sign that probaly read merge right or lanes closed. Anyways I locked up the rear wheel and slid sideways long enough to work away from the sandbags and straightned up just in time to miss them but my head hit the corner of the sign and i saw the whole works twist and fall to the ground as i went by. It was a great save with only a minor lump to the forehead. A close call. Got to stay awake at the handlebars.

I tend to look down at my guages too when traveling over tripple digits. NRR keeps getting on to me about the looking down thing. I thought he said one time he was gonna put tape over my guage when we go riding next time so I dont look down when we are traveling faster than we should be lol. Glad your ok though. That was crazy. You just made radio watch enjoyable. Thanks for the entertainment.
